The Battle of Corinth:Behind the Front Line

OCTOBER 4,1862

BY:CHANELLE PETERS

Today our troops fought, and won in the "Battle of Corinth". They were attacked by Confederate general Van Dorn and his troops, who were not prepared. Our troops fought back the Confederates until the early afternoon, when they finally retreated. General Grant sent extra troops to pursue the retreating Confederates. The "chase" (pursuit) was called off as the troops reached a town by the name of, Ripley. The Confederates got away, but the North saved the day.

Our casualties were 2,520. This victory left Corinth and Memphis, to us, Federals. A victory such as this brings joy, but does the killing of innocent men? I think not! Will this war end, my friends, or has it just began?
