Constellations

In the old days, some of the Indians named constellations after fish and fishing activities. Out of the stars, for example, the Nisqually made a fish weir. They also saw Orion's Belt as three Indians catching small fish. Orion's sword was a large salmon. The constellation Pleiades was seen as a species of fish and the northern lights were described as schools of herring turning up the whites of their bellies. Sometimes you could tell what Indian tribes named the constellations.
