Gaff and Hook

The gaff is another type of specialized fishing spear. It is used as a long hook to pull salmon out of the water. The gaff was used mainly from the banks of rivers and at fishing weirs. It was made of carved bone and wood, and in later times, was made from metal.

The trolling hook is just like a regular hook on a fishing rod, but the difference is that this hook was made by hand. This hook is attached to a line which connects to a pole, just like a fishing rod. The hook was usually made from bone or wood. The trolling hook was dragged behind a canoe.
