First crisis

About crisis          Schedule

Our town - Petropavlovsk-Kamchatski was divided into 3 zones. Local government enounced a graph of switching off the electricity. Electricity was given for 10 hours a day. Central heating was not working though a temperature outside was rather cold, about -12 celsius. We didn't have hot water. Almost all filling stations weren't working. All these led to a letter to United Nations Organization from our Kamchatka's delegates. The minister of extraordinary situations of Russia Sergey Shoigy visited our peninsula. As a result it was: the fuel was taken from Kamchatka's army on credit.

Unfortunately, it was very cold during the crisis. There was not hot water and heat. So very many people bought special kerosene ovens (you can find some of them on our page with photos), some people who could not afford ovens made (or bought) iron ovens in their apartments with a pipe going throughout the window. And as the result there were many fires in the houses.

It was very uncomfortable to sit without electricity, when you can't make any hot food, make homework with candles, because days were very shot: it used to become dark at 6-7 P.M. Many shops, all hotels and hospitals bought electric generators. There was a graph of switching on electricity in three region, but because of shortage of fuel they didn't adhere to the graph, so people didn't know exactly when electricity can be on.
