Singer teaches "that the fact that a human being is part of the species sapiens does not tell us anything whether it is reprehensible to kill; much more important are factors like rationality, autonomy and self-consciousness. Deformed infants do not have these characteristics. To kill them can therefore not be put on the same level as the killing of normal human beings." (P. Singer, Praktische Ethik, 1984/1990)

"The willful shortening of the life of a newbron is by active intervention is killing and thereby violates the law and the medical ethos. The fact that a newborn faces a life with disabilities does not imply the right to discontinue or even stop lifeprolonging measures." (MedR 1992, Number 4)
