Venus does look a bit like the earth if we look at its components, the size, its mass. The surface of Venus is terribly hot. It has a dry atmosphere and life is not possible. The pressure at ground level is 90 kilograms per square centimeter. Its circumference is only 650 km less compared to earth. The planets massive core also resembles the one we have beneath our feet made of iron and nickel. It is surrounded by a rocky crust that again is comparable with the one earth has

A crater on Venus

The surface of Venus.
The atmosphere that is floating around Venus does not resemble the one of the earth. The density is much higher and a thick layer of cloud makes the surface invisible for us.
Venus spins in 224,7 days around iths axis. This was discovered by measurements with radar at the Arecibo radio astronomical facility in Cost Rica The atmospheric compounds of Venus are 96% carbonmonoxide, 3,5% nitrogen and 0,5% of several other gasses. There is no oxygen. The high carbonmonoxide content makes the density very high and causes an intense greenhouse effect: heat of the sun can be absorbed easily but is not sent back efficiently into space.
