

| Between Mars and Jupiter there is a "belt" of big lumps of rock orbiting the sun. It is suspected that it contains the remains of a "tenth" planet that has collapsed. Others state that these "planetoids" as these rocky boulders are called, could be the building blocks for a new planet that never came into being. |

Planetoids differ in size considerably. The biggest is called Ceres and measures 973 km across. These rocks are mineral rich and some SF freaks are speculating about prospecting them.. This is virtually impossible, because the operation would take a vast sum of money, far more than would ever be profitable. |
