The fourth planet from the sun is Mars. Its closest distance to the sun is 206.600.000 km. As its orbit is an ellipse also, the biggest distance is 249.200.000 km. That makes the average distance about 227.900.000 km. Mars spins around with approximately the same speed as Earth does. It takes about one day to complete its turn (1 day and 37 minutes). The gravity force on Mars is much lower, it is 0.38 times that on Mars is circling the sun with a speed of 24,1 km per second in 686,98 days.

The surface of Mars.

This is why Mars is called "The Red Planet".
The atmosphere that surrounds this planet is very thin. It contains 98% carbondioxide, 2,7% nitrogen and 1,6% Argon. The 0,7% rest is a mix of small amounts of oxygen, neon, krypton, carbonmonoxide, xenon and water.
There is no liquid water on the surface of Mars. The low atmospheric pressure causes it to boil at a very low temperature, so it has evaporated and drifted into space. With a pressure of 5 to 6 millibars the cooking point temperature is somewhere between 0 and 3 degrees Celsius. This means also that frozen water starts to boil immediately when it melts.
