The distance of the earth to the sun of 150 million km is important. It is the reason that it is not to cold and not to hot to support life. On Mercury for instance thrice as close to the sun it is far to hot; 400 degrees Celsius. On Pluto, almost forty times further away in space it is far to cold; minus 230 degrees Celsius.
