The Giant Lilypad

Lily Large areas of water that are filled with lilypads provide a habitat to many animals, including frogs and rodents. These plants grow as a result of widespread flooding which raises the water level of the area rivers. Floating plants can assemble to form patches extending over several square kilometers. This phenomenon is called a "floating meadow." Giant Lilypads can reach a diameter of four feet and support the weight of several people. Because they have constant exposure to sunlight, they provide an environment for developing a massive ecosystem.
