The earth was drowned in darkness in the very earliest times. Emerging out of the lake Collasuyu, the god Con Tiqui Viracocha brought the first humans with him. He then created the sun (Inti), the moon and the stars to light the world. Con Tiqui created more human beings out of large rocks, including pregnant women. He sent the people off into the world, and kept a male and female with him at Cuzco (the "navel of the world").

Con, the Creator, was a man with no bones. He filled the earth with wonderful things that people need, but they forgot his kindness and rebelled against him. He punished them by stopping the rainfall so that the people became miserable and had to work hard, getting their precious little water from smelly, drying out riverbeds. Pachachamac, another god, drove out Con, and changed his people into monkeys. Pachachamac then took the earth and made our ancestors.
