FLOOD MYTHS

Flood myth parallels are found in the following myths:

·   Indian
·   Greek
·   Egyptian
·   Algonquin

Common threads found between these myths:

- Each flood (barring the Algonquin one) is caused because humans were becoming restless, rebellious and heinous.

- One man (and sometimes a woman, his wife) is warned of the flood before it happens and is given a means to survive it (a boat, chest, raft or guide). This parallel does not exist for the Egyptian flood myth.

- After the flood, the humans usually learn their lesson and end up being better people, worshipping the gods again and working honestly.

NOTE: The Algonquin flood myth doesn't follow this at all, as humans aren't created until after the earth is flooded. However, it is a parallel simply in that a flood myth even exists for this race of people.
