EARLY EXISTENCE MYTHS
Parallels in beliefs of what existed before everything else are found in the following myths:
· Yoruban (watery chaos)
· Japan (chaotic sea, with elements of earth/fire/air/water)
· Inca (came from a lake)
· Greek (chaotic sea)
· Indian (primeval sea)
· Pawnee (sea of chaos)
· Egyptian (watery abyss)
· Norse (bottomless abyss)
· Iroquois (people lived in sky, below was large sea from
which emerged the earth)
Common threads found between these myths:
- In all of these, it is clear to see that many civilizations believed that earth, or their Creator, came from chaos, and that chaos was usually a large body of water, like a sea.
