During the 1986 Olympic Winter Games 341athletes from 46 countries, participated in the visual performance assessment of the best athletes in the world. Enclosed is your personal Visual Performance Profile that you can use to guide your towards improving your visual performance. Better visual performance usually leads to better athletic performance.
Our results showed that only slightly more that half of those tested have had a complete eye examination. Also, a significant number of those tested reported that they were experiencing "visual difficulty". Surprisingly, very few of those reported are being utilized more frequently now by elite and professional level athletes to improve their visual and athletic performance.
Research has demostrated that many of visual skills that play an important part in sports performance may be improved. You should consider having a comprehensive eye examination yearly and may want to incorporate visual skills enhancement exercises into your workout routine. Unfortunately, this area of vision care for athletes is a relatively new and undeveloped in many parts of the world.
The Olympic Vision Center served three main
purposes. First, it provided you the visual performance assessment from which the enclosed
results have been generated. Second, the Center was used to educate and create awareness
regarding the importance of the vision in sport. Third, the information we received from
athletes, was used to contribute to the Olympic performance database of elite athletes.
Your contribution is valuable as future Olympians will benefit.
