How It All Started
Mount Olympus was home to a
group of deities. It was located on the Greek border with Macedonia. On the
summit of this great mountain lived the twelve Olympians. They were Zeus,
Hera, Poseidon, Hermes, Hades, Hestia, Hephaestus, Athena, Ares, Apollo,
Artemis, Aphrodite. However, other gods lived with them.
They were ranked according to their powers and authority.
The top rank was occupied by the Olympians (ruled by Zeus):
Aphrodite

Ares
Artemis
Athena
Hades
Hephaestus
Hera
Hermes
Hestia
Poseidon
Zeus
The second rank was occupied by the Nymphs:
There were 3 kinds of nymphs: The Dryads, who lived in forests
The Nereids, who lived in the sea
The Naiads, who lived in lakes, rivers & springs.
The third rank was occupied by The Demigods:
These deities were partly human, yet partly divine. Two well-known Demigods were Heracles- the strongest and most important, and Orpheus- who had the best singing voice.
The fourth rank was occupied by The Heroes:
The heroes were classified into two groups: Those before the Trojan War, like:

In the beginning, the universe was a mass of emptines known as chaos. Out of it, Gaea, the Earth, was born. Almost immediately, she gave birth to a son- Cronus, who she married. Although she married him, she had an affair with Tartatus, with whom she had The
Giants. With her son/husband, she had twelve children- sons: Oceanus, Coeus, Cronus, Crius, Hyperion,and Iapetus; and daughters: Phoebe, Rhea, Thea, Mnemosyne, Themis, Tethys. Two of those children, Cronus and Rhea got married. They had six children- sons: Poseidon, Hades, and Zeus; and daughters: Hera, Hestia, and Demeter.
