geography • switzerlands situation in europe • size

 Switzerland has a surface of 41 293.15 km2 in southern Central Europe. Distance west-east: 350 km ( ~220 miles), north-south 250 km (~150 miles)

As a small inland, Switzerland is completely enclosed of larger neighbour countries (France, Germany, Italy, Austria)

As the map beside shows, Switzerland is not a member of the EU (blue = European-Community).

So our money is still the Swiss Franc (actually 1 $ = 1.40 SFr)

All the countries around will use the EURO-currency from (2002 on)

Even the commercial collaboration contract (ECC) was refused by public vote (51 % no / 49 % yes) in 1996. Actually our government tries to negotiate a bilateral contract with the EU .
