Origami in Our life

Senbazuru (A thousand cranes) In Prayer

Cranes are special birds as well as Chinese phoenix that bring happiness to people in Japan.
Folding cranes are very popular, so one might think Origami means simply folding cranes. Actually, many people can fold cranes even if they don't know how to fold other models at all.

Senbazuru is a bunch of cranes (a thousand in number) sewn with thread.

We don't know exactly how long custom has been among people.

The old book about Origami "Senbazuru Orikata" (written in 1797) has description on Senbazuru and its custom.

"If one crane has a hundred years of life, a thousand cranes will have a million years of life", this book said. It gives us an idea that the custom of senbazuru has already had been there at that time.

Even now, people make senbazuru for prayers, of peace prevailing the world, cure of sickness, success in business, passing entrance exams, and winning in the election, etc.
