New Bulgarian History - the Political Change – 10 November 1989
With the political change in 1989 a new era in the present history of Bulgaria was started. In Bulgarian and foreign societies it has been given the definition “a change towards a democratic society and a market economy”. In the political sense it means the affirmation of a political pluralism with a system of many parties and a division of authorities; in economic sense - the impenetrability of private property, making the market a regulator of the economic life; in spiritual sense – the freedom of conscience, religion, belief and of speech; about the external policy - defending the government sovereignty and the national independence of Bulgaria.
The transition to a democratic society and a market economy comes with many contradictions and difficulties but is still pursued. In Bulgaria a ideal, political and economic pluralism has been affirmed. The division of authorities is a historic fact. The change of the ruling political parties is a normal political practice. The economic change gets clearer shape. The bounding with the European structures is the main trend in the foreign policy of the country. Despite of the difficulties the democratic changes in the country are deepened and broadened.
