Desert People

THE MONGOLS OF GOBI

These herding people live out in the open, in the windswept desert and steppe. The Mongols also live in tents which are stretched over a wooden frame so that they are portable and convenient to use. The Mongols also have to depend on herds of horses, asses, camels, goats and sheep, but the most important animals for them are their yaks. These yaks are already domesticated and are strong and sturdy, their waste can ignite fires and they can help to carry the loads. There are just a few farmers among the Mongols, they provide the pastoralists with cereal foods. But as the resources are used up in that area, the farmers have to move from one place to another.
