The perennial grasses

Despite their importance, these grasses are often overlooked by other people. They have huge root systems underground. This helps the plant to collect water from a large area. It also helps to hold the shifting sand in place. When it is too dry, the upper part of the plant may die, but the part underground is still alive. Perennials have a special way of reproducing. Their shoots can just grow out of the root system, so the plant keeps on getting larger and larger in size!
