¡@ in NORTH AFRICA~ The Sahara

Area: 8,400,000 sq km (3,250,000 sq miles)

Records:--The largest desert in the world, it's size is slightly
bigger than the whole of Australia!

--The world's sunniest place, there are over 4300 hours of
sunshine a year in eastern Sahara!
--The world's highest shade temperature
The desert is located northernmost third of Africa, stretching
from the west of the Atlantic Ocean to the east of the Red Sea, and
2000km from north to south. This piece of land is so large that it
covers about 13 countries in Africa!
Sahara is covered with rocky plateau areas which can exceed
3300m in height, and jaggedy mountain ranges like the Hoggar, the
Ahaggar and the Tibesti mountains. Though everything in here seems to be in great scales, water is still scarce. In fact 1/10 of the desert
is sandy, and the rest of it is filled with gravel and rocks, so pools
and oases are rare.

As you have read, the desert has a lot of different kinds of stones, and the usually seen ones are limestone and sandstone. Back to millions years ago, the creatures which lived here were fossilized,
and composed to limestone, that means they are really old stones.
Above this pile of stones, is the sandstone landscape. This landscape is
different, it is much softer and is shaped by erosion.
