Epistasis

Epistasis occurs when one gene affects the phenotypic expression of a second gene. For example, in mice there is a gene that codes for the presence or absence of pigmentation in fur. A second gene codes for the color of the fur. If the first gene codes for the absence of pigmentation, the mouse will have white fur regardless of the color the second gene codes for.
