Molecular Genetics - Recombinant DNA

Recombinant DNA

Recombinant DNA is DNA that contains segments or genes from different sources. These segments are spliced together to form the recombinant DNA.

Recombinant DNA technology uses restriction enzymes that cut the DNA after a certain sequence of nucleotides. The staggered cut is referred to as a sticky end. The sticky ends are then reintegrated into a DNA strand by the enzyme ligase.
