1) Eumyang ohaeng - 2 ways and 5 roads

The thought of Eumyang ohaeng, 2 ways and 5 roads was origined from ancient China. Eumyang, 2 ways means the process from birth to death. Ohaeng, 5 roads means phenomena about Universe, Mok(椋) Hwa(廴) To(龢) Keum(倎) Su(漵). Those means tree, fire, earth, metal, water by turns.

The materials of Color

Row Materials of Danchung is called Anryo. Those are gained of the color stones in nature, so these are called Jinchae or Amchae which mean mud or stone. Those were mainly made in China in those days. Nowaday those are made from chemical process.
The organic matter are used in the Danchung. These kinds are cyanin green,
permanent orange, permanent yellow, toluidine red, permanent black, titanium dioxide R, iron oxide yellow, emerald green, lead red, cobalt blue, iron oxide red, chrome yellow, chromium oxide green, ultramarine blue and so on.
In Koryu Dynasty poles were painted with red colors and ceiling with green-blue colors to make the color degree bright. Koryu Dynasty's Danchung has character like this. We think that this principle was affected on accepting light. In Chosun Dynasty Danchung were described in the inside or outside of the architecture differently according to its decoration.

Bright color were used in the outside to make light-degree high and green and blue color in the inside. But these colors were bright. In that time, design and color system seem to have order. For example, the following table is helpful to you.

Design of Danchung

We simply think Danchung of the ornamentation with painting. But Patterns of Danchung of the architecture have their own meaning and symbol. Designs of Danchung have orders and systems on painting.
Parts of Danchung are described many differently. Top of the architecture are called 'chunsan' which means heaven. It is painted with heaven color and decorated with five color clouds, seven light colors and the lotus flower. The poles which stand to assist the roof are painted with clouds as if it were God's clothes. The bottom of the pole are simply painted with red and blue colors which mean dignity to lower people.

Kinds and Name of Danchung

﹞Muricho(Detail of the end part) : It is painted at the end of every part. It is called very differently according to its design.

﹞Hyui(Detail of the center) : It was oriented from covering things. It is also called very differently.

﹞Gummun(Golden Design) : It was oriented that it has beautiful color and many designs, so it look like gold design as if it were silk.

﹞Hwamun(Flower Design) : It is flower design. The lotus flower designs were used mainly.

﹞Chungangcho : It is painted on ceiling. Its design are Bangacho, Daranicho.

﹞Buricho : It is painted on the opening boards, gable, the end of rafter.

﹞Geuki(Line) : Black and white line are used in this Design.

﹞Geometric Design : Every line is included in this.

﹞Sinsumun and Susumun : These are made of pictures of the Imaginable animals.

﹞Ungimun : It is the Cloud Design. There are many kinds of designs. For example, So far, we acknowledged that there are many designs in the Danchung. That is, there are Geometry design, flower design, animal design, and Religion and Life style Design and so on.
