The twins of Gemini refer to the brother heros Castor and Pollux. However, Castor and Pollux were only half-brothers. Castor's father was the king of Sparta, but shared the same mother (Leda) as Pollux. Pollux was the result of Leda and Jupiter. The two brothers were among the famous Argonauts led by Jason. After the death of his brother Castor, Pollux mourned to join him in the underworld, but could not do so because of his immortality.
