The Ram is often said to be the ram the legendary that carried Phrixus to the safety of the shores of the Black Sea. The tale begins in the city of Thessaly. Helle and Phrixus were the children of the King of Thessaly who were beaten by their stepmother. Hermes fearing the safety of the children sent a ram to take them to safety. During the children's escape from Thessaly, Helle fell into a strip of water between Asia and Europe. The river is now named Hellespont in her honor. The ram was later sacrificed by phrixus and its fleece was given to a dragon for safekeeping. This is the same Golden Fleece that the Argonauts recovered later on.
