The Paradise Island

Located at the northwestern tip of Panay, this small island has meanwhile become the No.1 tourist spot destianation of the Philippines. Boracay is an exceptional place for lazing around. It is also known for its Puka Shells which was said to be best in the world because of its very rare gleam. For other people it is a typical Pacific island paradise because everyday is a holiday that all you have to do is enjoy the places around you - snorkel, windsurfing, swimming, and sailing. The island is roughly shaped like dumb-bell, 7 km long and the narrowest spot is nearly 1 km wide. With approximately 6,000 inhabitants, Boracay belongs to the Malay in Aklan province and consists of three communities locally called "barangay", Yapak in the north, Balabag in the center and Manoc-Manoc in the south. The north and south are hilly with elevations up to 100 m above sea level, and suited for extensive hiking trips. Numerous interwining paths and trails may sometimes lead through tropical jungle and link the small villages of the island with each other.
The best part of the island is its 4 km White Beach, also called long beach by the locals. It is situated at the west coast between the villages of Angol and Balabag, and some experienced travelers claim it to be the finest in all Asia. The waters is shallow here, and its brighter and finer than most beach in the archipelago.

Accommodation:

Boracay establishments offer economy, superior and de luxe accommodations. The rental rates can be negotiated depending on the time of your stay. Price categories refer to a cottage or room for two persons with private toilet and bath, if available. Most cottages are suited for two persons, have verandah,private toilet and bath. 220 V electricity is avaliable on the island.

Restaurants:

Aside from numerous small snack bars and fast-food a whole line of excellent restaurantrs with international dishes and atmosphere have been established. Virtually every large resorts runs its own restaurants with Filipino and international cuisine. Apart the specialty restuarants offered meals are usually similar in terms of price and taste. Fresh seafood is at its best. A number of cozy meeting places for after dinner chat are available.
