Sorsogon, at the southeastern part of the Bicol Peninsula, is bounded on the north by the Province of Albay, on the east and notheast by the Pacific Ocean, on the south by the San Bernandino Strait, and on the west and northwest by the Ticao and Burias Passes.

Sorsogon with an area of 2, 141.40 sq. kms. In 1970, consist of 16 towns with Sorsogon as the capital.

On October 17, 1894, Sorsogon was seperated as a province from Albay. Juan de la Guardia became the first governor, succeeded by Guillermo Montes, Saliendo Salazar and Leandro Villamil.

The province is rich prehistoric culture. The archeological excavation conducted by Robert Fox in 1959 unearthed stone tools and the burial jars at the "hacienda" of Juan Escuentura in Bato. Golden Crowns, believed to exist from 91 B.C. to 79 A.D., were also found in Bulan and Juban.

Sorsogon is known for its historic and panoramic places, such as the century-old towers or "buluartes" in Sta. Magdalena, Bacon Matnog, Casiguran and Bulusan; the eye catching waterfalls in Guinjalon; the summer resorts along Lake Bulusan; the "Tulong Gapo" in Bacon; the Bato Limestone in Bato; and the Irosin church in Isorin.

Gradually, the province of Sorsogon has established a total sixteen municipalities which are politically subdivided into two districts, namely: first district ( Sorsogon, Pilar, Donsol, Castilla, Bacon, Casiguran and Magallanes ) and the second district ( Barcelona, Prieto Diaz, Gubat, Juban, Bulusan, Irosin, Sta. Magdalena, Matnog and Bulan ).

Go trekking at Bulusan Volcano. Towering at 5,077 feet above sea level. Bulusan volcano is like a crawling giant in the middle of the forest land which have been declared as a province's National Park.

Its geological age is estimated at 374 years old. The lake was developed in 1962 as a tourist center. Special features are: "Lover's Lane" which forms a very romantic ring around the lake. For the literary minded traveller's they call it "Poet's Idyll." Visitors claimed that the place is so grandiose that one will be motivated to return in order to refresh one's memories of the natural setting it soothingly provides.

Masacrot Spring is a man-made pool with bubbling, cool, and natural soda water. It is 100 meters away from the roadside of Barrio San Roque, 7 kilometers away from Bulusan, 9 kilometers away from the Irosin, and 47 kilometers away from Sorsogon, the provincial capital.

Bato Limestone Cave of Bacon is about 100 meters away from the junction along the Sawang Bacon Road. There are three caves. One is habitable while the two are used as burial grounds. Various acient artifacts were unearthed by a group of archeological team in 1956. It was estimated to be 2,000 years old. It is in triangular position in the sea by the shores of Calicaran.

Subic Beach is located at Clintaan Island, Montog, Sorsogon The beach Boast of white sandy beach surrounded lby lush vegetation and with the sea providing unspoiled coral reef formation teeming with beautiful tropical fishes. In the nearby is an unnamed cave with big migratory bats.

Irosin Church built on a top a hill, it dominates other stucture in the town of Irosin. From the ventage point of the church, unfurls a panoramic view of the town anf from a far the towering Bulusan volcano.

They also celebrate Kasanggayahan Festival which is held every October 17-27. This festival was derived from the dialect which means "prosperity and happiness." It feature cultural shows, trade fair/exhibits, guided tours acitvity and many more.
