Mountain Province became a special province of the Philippines in 1907. It was made up of the sub-provinces of Bontoc-Lepanto, Amburayan Benguet, Ifugao and Kalinga. Today Mt. Province is growing in popularity as a "Spelunkers Delight and Weavers Paradise". It is becoming a favorite destination of both local and foreign visitors.
Mountain Province is composed of 10 municipalities anmely Bontoc, Barlig, Bauko, Besao, Natonin, Sabangan, Sadanga, Sagada, Tadain and Paracelis, with Bontocas the provincial capital of the province.
The capital of Mt. Province and is acknowledge as the locale of the rice and colorful Ifugaoculture, costoms, and traditions.
They have unique and wierd tourist spots like Pagan God Footprint Palikut Aso. It is a large stone with footprints believed to be the footprints of Lumauig, the Pagan God of Igorots. A stone resembling that of a sleeping dog is also found around the area.
Another is Alab Petroglyphs. A huge rock with bows and arrows and human beings etched on its surface. The etchings of human being are believed to have been those warriors buried in the Ganga Cave at the foot of the mountain where the rock stands.
Visit the Bayo-Rice Terraces. A breathtaking welcome view as one enters the village. They are biult with stone rip rap district from that of the famed Banaue Rice Terraces. They are like stairways to the sky with its greenery and golden hue.
If you are looking for something native come and visit the Samoki Village. Half-kilometer from the the proper town. Womenfolk handweave shirts and blankets and men make claypots.
They are also popular because of their different caves and falls. You can tell the difference of each one.
