The first ratio we will discuss is the tangent ratio. These ratios are, of coarse, only for right triangles. In tangent ratios, we are looking for the length of a leg by only knowing that the triangle is a right triangle, the length of a leg, and the measure of an angle but not the right angle. The one leg next to the angle we are looking for is called the adjacent leg and the leg opposite the angle we are looking for is the opposite angle. The tangent of angle A is the opposite leg of angle A over the adjacent leg of angle A. |
