Beach Volleyball

Beach Volleyball, which debuted at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games, is expected to be a very popular event at Sydney in 2000. Sydney's famous Bondi Beach is the venue for beach Volleyball and a temporary 10,000 capacity arena will be constructed as well as warm up and practice areas. Athletes will have to cope with hot sun and sand and must also be very agile, as only two players on each team play on a full sized volleyball court.

Sydney Harbour Area

As well as hosting judo, volleyball, boxing and weightlifting, the Sydney Harbour area will also host the following sports

  • Triathlon in the Sydney Opera House precinct
  • Fencing at the Royal Hall of Industries, Moore Park
  • Football (soccer) at the Sydney Football Stadium, Moore Park
  • Sailing, from a base at Rushcutters Bay on Sydney Harbour and,
  • Cycling road race and time trials at nearby Centennial Park

This area will also stage part of the Marathon which starts at North Sydney and ends in Homebush Bay, at the Olympic Stadium.
