Greg Personal Thoughts "I remember getting up in the middle of the night after my parents told me not to in 1993 on the day the host city announcement for the 2000 games. In the lounge room I found my parents. They weren't mad. I sat with them and watched history in the making. When I heard those words 'and the winner is... Sydney!' I was so happy. I was only 9, and although I didn't understand how big this actually was, I have been interested with the 2000 games ever since. Now that I am older and the Games are just around the corner, I am swept more than ever with Olympic Fever" Katie Personal Thoughts "On the night of the bid winner announcement, I was restless all night so when the results were being televised, I crept out of bed and into the lounge room where my dad was snoring as usual after having arrived home from work an hour ago. I changed the channel and shared in the excitement that was winning the 2000 Olympic games. The next morning when I woke up the news was everywhere u looked. People were talking about it, it was in the papers, on TV and on t he radio. Everyone was so ecstatic; they all had Olympic fever" Joseph Personal Thoughts "The main Olympic Site at Homebush is only 10 minutes from my house. I'll never forget the day, when from the end of my street I could see the huge crane towering above everything in my vision. When the Aquatic Centre first opened to the public I kept urging my family to take me, after all its not every day you have such a high standard facility on your door step. As I entered the centre I could imagine it filled with people, watching as Australia brings us gold." Virginia

Personal Thoughts "Because I had been involved in gymnastics for 13 years as a mum, coach, judge and sports administrator, I was determined to do something exciting on the night of the announcement. We agreed as a family that we wanted to be right where it was all happening - the Olympic site at Homebush. Although it was a very cold time of year we bundled up our two young children and went to Homebush where there were already hundreds of people gathered to hear the news. There were huge screens set up around the open space (which would later become the Tennis Centre), and everyone received free McDonalds in a tent set up to look just like the real thing - A McDonalds Store outlet!!! When the announcement was made we all went wild, we were so excited I couldn't believe that I would have the opportunity to go to the Olympics in my own country. I am now a volunteer and will have one of the best seats in the house at the Olympics working for the sport that I love. The memory still sends tingles down my spine - it will certainly be a night to remember..."
