| Director, he was born on January 19 th 1926 in Pisa. Cinema critic and executive of cineclubs together with hisbrothers Paolo and Vittorio Taviani, he has developed with them an intense cinema activity, either as assistant-director, and as documentarist, and finally as director of feature film. Broken with the Taviani in 1966, he has continued to work alone in the field of the documentary and on the feature film on subject. In 1968 he has directed I dannati della terra (and. 1969), in which the themes of the third world, of the responsibility of the white, of the intellectuals’ crisis, have been treated in genial and suggestive forms and ways, even if a little unrealistic and confused.
