GIULIANO MONTALDO
Director, actor, he was born in Genoa in 1924. He began in cinema as actor and general organizer in Achtung banditi! (1951, C. Lizzani), realized by a cooperative of spectators. Subsequently he has taken part to some films, passing to the direction in 1961 with Tiro al piccione, a film on the Resistance, that critically tried to analyze the behavior of the fascist young people of the republic of Salò in contact with the partisan world. If the film partly was an artistic flop for the incapability to analyze in depth the human and psychological reasons of the characters, it nevertheless revealed in Montaldo good directing gifts, that were confirmed by the following Una bella grinta (1965), in which he wanted to outline, with a certain acumen, the character of a youth of our days, social climber, of no scruples, entirely devoted to the social success.
