IL MESTIERE DI VIVERE
of Cesare Pavese
From the search of a wanted and guided internal plan, another value of election of the writer is born: the " stoicism ", that is an assumption of his own destiny that transforms its evil in good. Instrument of this desperate program of morality, is Il mestiere di vivere, a diary that is born from this double crisis to face it, and to help the writer to devise his own existence checking its moments analytically.
When Pavese died and Il mestiere di vivere went out posthomous, another wave take place, in the political writings, of "diarist" critical, of which the most complex contribution was, in 1953, that of SERGIO SOLMI which in the" tenacious strain of annihilation, of intellectual dissolution" that the diary represented, he saw" the resolution that Pavese was able to draw from this desolate internal practice transferring it, and as materializing its fantastic equivalent, in most part of his work, but especially in the shiny and feverish images of the stories of La bella estate; or at least of the second and of third, especially of the third. With the spectacle, this time, of a vital dissolution, of an animate death as a putrefying germination. And it also pointed out an ambivalence of suicide: "everything in the life is ambivalent, and what helps to live helps to die too
