UNA MANCIATA DI MORE
of Ignazio Silone
Una manciata di more is the first novel written by Silone in Italy, during his return in 1952. He was considered by CECCHI the most binding and most studied book of our writer.
Rocco de Donatis, ended the partisan war, remains in his country as official of the PCI; but soon he realizes that the Party prefers the aspiration to the power to the wish of justice. During a distribution of lands, in fact, the Party is granted with the landowner to distribute the lands to the countrymen enrolled to the Party, excluding those poorer dont enrolled. Rocco, couldnt bear this injustice, he abandons the Party, also suffering from his woman Stella, remained faithful to the PCI, accusations and unauthorized searches. He takes back his political profession of free man, making himself leader of the poor countrymen, with Martino and Lazzaro, whose was a social utopia, that coincides with that of Silone, a socialist without party and Christian without church and it is contained in a note formula: " Make the Fucino as a Soviet with to head Jesus Cristo". This would be this conductor motive of the novel, substantial in the theme of the trumpet, that is conforming to the southern legends and it means the wait, the hope in a better world, so warmly felt by the southern farmers and from the abruzzesis in particolar way.
