In general sense, on this democratic base, the political confusion was also extended to the culture’s level. In fact, to the light of the recent experiences of the war, of the share of the workers and people to the Resistance, of the economic difficulties and of the ethic and material poverty owed to the war, the new literary men examined the preceding literature of the Thirties, finding it above all distant from life’s reality almost entirely evasive or yoked to the fascist wagon. It started in such sense a real trial to the preceding literature that had not absolved to its duty of testimony of the truth and the lost liberty. The polemic was developed in magazines and publications of every kind, often without a prudent critical sense and without putting in relief that so much of positive that there also had been in some groups of poets and artists that had set apart from the regime.
