PLOT,CRITIQUE and NOTES

In the Italy of fascism, Adriana (Lollobrigida) is as beautiful as unlucky: after a love disappointment she is on the way of the prostitution from which Bill saver her (Gélin), a partisan that, halted, blows the whistle and kills himself attacked by the regrets. Adriana is agains alone and waits for a child. From the homonym Alberto Moravia’s novel (adapted by the author, by the director, by Giorgio Bassani and by Ennio Flaiano), Zampa has drawn a softened and twilight film, at a midway between the Romantic and the decadent, weighted by too literary digressions. Remaked for the television with Dellera. (P. Mereghetti “Dizionario dei film 1998”, translated by Alice Castoldi)
