The films that have been selected cover the period that goes from 1943 to 1955, because these are the years that constitute the crucial season of the Italian “neo-realismo”. This is the reason which determined the exclusion of some otherwise relevant movies, while on the other hand, if some selected works may belong to the years before or after the ‘43-’55 period, this is due to their significance within the context of the career of a particular director, or because they are based on literary works which were published during that period.
