| The Thracian land was fat and fertile land and its various fruits
were famous on the markets of the Greek Polyses. The Thracians used the
market centres in Enos, Perint, Maronia, Abdera, Amphipol, Lampask and
all west Pontian colonies to export goods as: cereals, cattle, honey, wax,
natural dyes, wooden materials and resin, charcoal, metals, dried and salted
meat, furs. In the mountains of Thrace there were deposits of copper and
iron ore, silver and gold. The mine often was use only by the Greek colonists
or together with them. Thrace was the main supplier of slaves for the slavery
markets in Athens.
The Thracians on their hand were searching for metal products of high quality, different utensils. The Thracian aristocracy became richer and richer and its possibilities to obtain expensive and luxury goods as clothes, pottery, weapons, adornment and costume jewelry for the women, brass utensil, increased |
