Ares, the Thracian god of war had been their fellow traveler during whole their life. Generation after generation the combats, marches and battles fulfilled the life of the Thracian tribes. During the Hellenic and Rome epoch many Thracians turn their ability to fight into a profitable craft.

was his war equipment- the spear, the sword, the bow and the shield. He
was a soldier and a protector of the house. He was a property of the military
aristocracy.
During a peace, the tribe soldiers took care of the economy, and during wartime, take became military leaders. They were the builders, they encouraged the trade, the philosophy, the art, and they passed judgement. They also became generals during wartime. The division of the two social groups- councilors and aristocracy was also needed during a war. They formed the two main parts of the army- pedestrians and cavalry. The pedestrians consisted of villagers, armed with light weapons. The infantry was called ''peltastes''. It was named after the shield, which they wore for protection – the “pelta”. The cavalry was divided into light consisted of the ''horse shooters'' and strong cavalry. The cavalry was the force of the Thracian army. They were horse tribe famous with their ability to breed horses in the time when they still lived in their first land. |
