-
The Goddess-Mother – supreme patroness of life,
endowing with any welfare and the related cult of the fertile power of
the Sun, providing immortality (Solar);
-
The related to the underworld and its forces
cult of the ecstasy and exaltation, which results in a union with the Deity
and passing to a higher stage of existence (Chthonic).
Many of the Gods had a dual essence –
a Solar and a Chthonic origin. According to Herodotus, the main deities
of the common Thracians were Ares, Dionysus
and Artemis, while the tribal chieftains worshipped
Hermes.
The
Sun (Apollo) was one of the most worshipped deities by the Thracians.
No doubt, that their Sun cult developed in their former Motherland. |
