Apollo spent a lot of time among people. He played with his golden lyre, taught them, showed them which herbs to seek in the woods, the mountains, along the rivers and the creeks. That is why he was met everywhere with joy. The nymph Coronis (originating from Thessaly or Phoekida) gave birth to his son named Asclepius. Some say he was the father of Orpheus and Lyn. Apollo was the most widespread antique god and had syncretic features. He was at the same time a god of shepherds and the inventor of the bow, god of every religious and spiritual activity, of oracles, music and songs, the leader of the Muses, God of light, the Sun and purity, God of healing and Patron of agriculture. The ancient Thracians worshipped a similar deity – a protector of vegetation, health and healing. |
