Brain Tour

He-brain, She-brain

Male and females show different attitudes, behaviour and talents. Ever wondered why? Men seem to use one side of his brain, i.e. use one cerebral hemisphere, more than the other. Women, however tend to use both cerebral hemispheres equally as studies show that women draw more equally on both hemispheres for verbal and visual activities and emotional responses. Furthermore, men averaged 13 percent more neurons in the outer layer of their brains while women possessed 13 percent more neuropil, cells that allow brain cells to communicate. Women are also found to have a larger corpus callosum. Thus men have bigger brains but a less wired brain.

Women with their better wired brains, seem to be better than men at seeing the context in which an events unfolds. They are also better at sensing emotional messages in conversations, gestures, and facial expressions, hence are more sensitive. They generally start to speak and read at an earlier age than men and learn languages more easily and are generally better than men in grammar and spelling. Women are have better sight at night and have a more acute sense of smell, taste and hearing. Girls, as you have noticed, have better handwriting because they exhibit better motor control of their hands.

Men, on the other hand, have better directional sense and are better at reading maps. They also excel in mathematics and interpreting three-dimensional objects from two-dimensional projections. They exhibit better hand-eye co-ordination and more precise control of movements of large groups of muscles. Men have poor peripheral vision but see more clearly in bright light and a better sense of perspective. Men, as they tend to use one side of the brain more than the other, often use the left hemisphere solely for verbal activities and the right hemisphere solely for visual activities and emotional responses, especially if he is a right-handed.

In all, the male and female brains are very different and neither is superior to the other.
