The first shape to catch our eye on our trip to Bosque del Apache Bird Sanctuary was the silhouette of a snapping turtle. It was a very exciting event at 6:37 a.m., but our expectations for the day were high. Shortly after our discovery of the turtle, we began our drive along the dirt roads of the Bosque in search of the endangered Whooping Crane. Although we never saw the Whooping Crane on that morning, the trip was enough to capture our interest in the beautiful bird.

Through reintroduction methods, the Whooping Crane and the Mexican Gray Wolf have made incredible comebacks. We have designed this web site to share our interest in the reintroduction of these species with millions of people. Being from the Southwest, we have had the opportunity to follow their reintroduction from our own backyard.
