2:00 PM, October 26th Amnok River
Almost There

South Korean soldiers at the western battlefront were the first to reach Amnok River.  Shortly after, in November, U.S. forces from the eastern battlefront arrived as well.  The Amnok River is located near the northernmost border of the Korean Peninsula, facing China.  U.S. and South Korean soldiers had believed that the war was now over.

UN troops and South Korean forces reached Amnok River without much difficulty.  It had only taken about 15 days to seize Pyongyang, the North Korean capital, and they easily captured the port city of Wonsan as well.  Yesterday, U.S. soldiers were attacked by what appeared to be Chinese soldiers, but they didn't think much of it.

Now UN and South Korean forces were wrapping up the war and eliminating the last of the North Korean troops.
After inspecting the situation in Amnok River, Gen. MacArthur was satisfied, for there appeared to be no Soviet or Chinese forces.  Gen. MacArthur expected to completely end the war before the end of the year 1950.  The victorious soldiers were relaxing by the cool Amnok River, reminiscing about the war that seemed so long ago.

But little did they know what would be awaiting them the next morning.
