Most NKPA troops fled north from Seoul through a hail of artillery fire and air strikes but die-hard units forced the US soldiers and Marines and an ROK regiment to battle for each block. Street fighting raged in the capital for three days before
the city was declared secure on Wednesday, 27 September 1950.
