A picture of the Signing of the Declaration of Independence

Before things start getting too hairy, you decide to leave. So you just jump in the time machine. Then it dawns on you; you could see the declaration of independence being signed! This sounds exciting to you so all that you do is set the time machine for Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, July 4, 1776.

You arrive in Philadelphia sometime near noon. In fact you can even hear the bell toll the noon hour as you walk down the street. To your right, you see the Philadelphia State House. There seems to be quite a bit of commotion going on inside the building. To see just what's going on, you stick your head in the door. Standing right there before you is Thomas Jefferson! You also pick out John Adams, John Hancock, and several others that you recognize from that famous painting that your teacher made you look at in class.

You can't believe it! Right here, before your eyes, the United States of America is being born! You've celebrated this day every year with fireworks and parades, but this is more exciting than all of that. Before too long, you see everybody start to move up to a table. You see John Hancock sign his famous signiture.
