Sometimes observed on the polar regions of Jupiter are auroras, much like the northern lights seen in Falsly colored images of Jupiter's auroras (courtesy STScl)places such as Alaska. On Earth, the auroras are produced by the interaction between solar winds and the magnetic field. However, on Jupiter, it is probably caused by the interaction between its moon, Io interfering with the planet's magnetic fields. Also seen on Jupiter are cloud-top lightening bolts, much like the superbolts high in Earth's atmosphere.
