Metis ![]()
Metis is the innermost satellite of Jupiter and was discovered by Stephen Synnott in 1979. The satellite along with Adrastea lie within Jupiter's main ring and could be the source of the material found in the ring. Because of its closeness to Jupiter, very little is known about this moon. In Greek mythology, Metis was named after a Titaness (a consort of Zeus - Jupiter).
